Getting Started with Astoria-on-Demand
Overview of Astoria-on-Demand
Astoria is a file component management system (CMS) that provides you with information accessibility. Astoria lets you share files and parts of files by enabling:
- Multiple users to access the same data
- Data to be used in multiple files (reuse)
Astoria enables you to perform the following tasks:
- Store and share information based on structured components
- Browse and query the docubase to find information you need
- Track revisions of files and file components
- Collaborate with other users who also have access to files and file components within the system
Requesting Access to the System
Before you can use Astoria, you must send an e-mail to John Doe who will set up your user account.
Adding the Astoria-on-Demand Web Client as a Trusted Internet Site
The Astoria-on-Demand (AOD) system is a web application that can be accessed simply by typing the URL in your Internet browser and then logging in. However, before you can access AOD, you need to ensure that the address is configured as a trusted Internet site in your browser.
Note: Before you can use Astoria, you must send an e-mail to John Doe who will set up your user account.
To Add Astoria-On-Demand as a trusted site
- Open an Internet Explorer browser session.
- Click Tools > Internet Options. The Internet Options dialog box displays.
- Select the Security tab.
- In the Web content zone pane, click Trusted sites. The Trusted sites zone displays.
- Click Sites. The Trusted sites dialog box displays.
- In the Add this Web site to the zone field, type the following URL: https://acme.astoriaondemand.com.
- Click Add. The URL displays in the Web sites list box.
- In the Add this Web site to the zone field, type the following URL: java.sun.com.
- Click Add. The URL displays in the Web sites list box.
Note: Verify that the Requires server verification check box is not selected.
- Click OK. The Security tab redisplays. You can now log in to AOD from your Internet browser.
Registering as a New User with AOD
After you have enabled the AOD URL as a trusted Internet site, you can register yourself as a new user so that you can use AOD.
Note: Before you can use Astoria, you must send an e-mail to John Doe who will set up your user account.
To register as a new user with AOD
- Open an Internet Explorer browser session.
- In the Address field, type https://acme.astoriaondemand.com. The Astoria ON Demand web application displays.
Note: Your Internet browser will verify the applet environment, which may take a minute.
- Click New User Registration. The New User Registration page displays.
- Complete the following fields:
- Login Name - Type the username you want to use to log in to the applications. For example, you could use johndoe.
- Name - Type your "friendly" name, such as John Doe.
Note: Completing the Description field is optional.
- Email address - Type your full ACME e-mail address, such as johndoe@acme.com.
- Click Create. You will receive a follow-up e-mail from ACME_Astoria-NoReply@astoriaondemand.com with a temporary password.
Installing the Internet Explorer Plug-In
After you register as a new user with AOD, you need to install an Internet Explorer plug-in when you connect to the Astoria server for the first time.
To install the Internet Explorer plug-in
- Open an Internet Explorer browser session.
- In the Address field, type https://acme.astoriaondemand.com. The Astoria ON Demand web application displays.
- In the Login Name field, type the username you created when you registered as a new user.
- In the Password field, type your temporary Astoria password.
- Click Login. Internet Explorer will appear to be doing nothing for a short time, and then a dialog box displays that prompts you to download a Java plug-in to IE.
- Click Run. The installation begins and when it is complete, a dialog box displays, prompting you to close IE.
- Click Close. You are now ready to log in as a user.
Logging in to AOD
You must log in each time that you want to work in the AOD content management system.
Before you can log in to AOD, please verify you have completed the following steps:
- Requested access to the system
- Added AOD as a trusted Internet site
- Registered as a new AOD user
- Installed the IE plug in
To log in to AOD
- Open an Internet Explorer browser session.
- In the Address field, type https://acme.astoriaondemand.com. The Astoria ON Demand login web page displays.
Note: You can add this web page as a Favorite (bookmark) using the standard procedure for adding favorite web links.
- In the Login Name field, type your Astoria username.
- In the Password field, type your Astoria password.
Note: Your password for AOD is not synchronized with ACME's password management system (PMS). When you change your password at ACME using the password management system, it will not automatically change in the Astoria system. If you want to keep your ACME password and your Astoria password the same, manually change your Astoria password every time that you update your ACME password in PMS. See how to change your AOD password.
- Click Login. A message displays in the upper-left corner of your browser, notifying you that the Astoria plug-in is being checked for completeness and version. After about 20 seconds, the Astoria Content Management System web page displays, and you can begin work.
Opening the Astoria Workbench
The Astoria Workbench is an Astoria client application that enables users to access the Astoria docubase over a wide area network (WAN). You can open the Astoria Workbench from the AOD web application or from your Start menu.
Note: Before you can use Astoria, you must send an e-mail to John Doe who will set up your user account.
To open the Astoria Workbench from the AOD web application
- Log in to AOD.
- From the toolbar, click Workbench. The Java Web Start dialog box displays while the Astoria Workbench downloads (or installs your first time), and then the Astoria Workbench client application displays.
To open the Astoria Workbench from your Start Menu
- Click Start, and then select All Programs > Astoria Software, Inc. > Astoria Workbench. The Java Web Start dialog box displays while the Astoria Workbench downloads, and then the Astoria Workbench client application displays.
Changing Your Astoria Password
You can change your Astoria password from Astoria User Options. You might want to change your Astoria password in the following situations:
- You recently registered as a new user, and you only have the temporary password that Astoria issued you
- You recently updated your ACME password, and you want to keep your ACME password the same as your Astoria password
To change your Astoria password
- Log in to AOD.
- From the tool bar, click User Options. The user properties pane displays.
- In the New Password field, type the password you want to use.
- In the Confirm New Password field, retype the password that you added to the New Password field.
- Scroll to the bottom of the pane, and then click Save User Options. The user properties pane displays verifying that your user properties were modified.
Retrieving Your Username or Password
If you forget your username or password, you can retrieve it by sending an e-mail message to astoriaondemand.com.
To retrieve your username or password
- Open an Internet Explorer browser session.
- In the Address field, type https://acme.astoriaondemand.com. The Astoria ON Demand login web page displays.
- Click I forgot my user name or password. The User Name and Password Assistance page displays.
- In the Email Address field, type your ACME e-mail address.
- Click OK. The Message sent web page displays confirming that your e-mail hint was sent.
- From Outlook, open the e-mail message sent from astoriaondemand.com. The body of the message contains your username and password hint.
